We Love... GRACE JONES! and summer 2009

We Love… Space (09) Sundays
Opening party 14th June / Closing party 27th September
16.30 – 06.30

We Love… return once more to the island of the sun, with the most inspired line-ups yet. Let the fun commence.

We Love… An Explosion.

Last year, We Love… bought The Chemical Brothers back to the White Isle after a ten-year hiatus. This year, not only do the Chemical Brothers return once more - on August 16th - for an exclusive Ibiza performance. But also…

We Love… Go Bang!

GRACE JONES, one of the world’s most legendary musicians and performers. A woman who inserts Amazing’ into everything she does, will perform LIVE at We Love… at Space in Ibiza - on August 9th – for the first time ever - as part of Wall Of Sound’s 15 Year anniversary celebrations.

“A figure so dominant and iconic has returned to the forefront of our social conscious. Model, actress, performer, entertainer, singer, producer, writer, the enigma that is Ms GRACE JONES has firmly been reaffirming herself as the superstar she has always been…”
 - taken from the promotion of Grace’s latest album release ‘Hurricane’, released on WoS earlier this year.

“To say I’m excited about our debut Wall Of Sound event at Space is an understatement. A line-up that inspires and will take all lucky enough to be there on a journey they will never ever forget” – Mark Jones (Wall Of Sound).

We Love Summer Guests 2009 include: Grace Jones LIVE, Chemical Brothers (DJ Set), Hot Chip (Al and Felix DJ Set), Simian Mobile Disco, Miss Kittin and the Hacker (Live), 2Many DJs, Lottie, Claude VonStroke, DJ Hell, David Guetta, Felix Da Housecat, Boys Noize, Rob Da Bank, Hercules and Love Affair (Ibiza debut) Jesse Rose & Heidi B2B, Ed Bangers, Aeroplane, Appleblim, Crookers, DJ Pierre, Ben Watt, the Juan Maclean LIVE, Pier Bucci, Jamie Jones, Tiefschwarz, Alex Smoke, Zombie Nation, Ocelot, Derrick May, Bugged Out!, Wall Of Sound, Chew The Fat!, Burlington Project… and Many more!

"Really excited about this summer... With six separate arenas to work with it is always great fun sitting in my office during the winter months and putting together dream line-ups, thinking back to the summer gone remembering the highlights and low-lights in equal measure. Planning the future - summer -checking out new bands, old bands, visiting discotheques across the water, bars on beaches in far flung places securing the talent for the coming summer at Space. I have to say that this year we have really broke the bank, pulled out all the stops and put together the biggest, baddest lineup ever to hit the island, some old friends, some new, some borrowed, some…

Personal highlights:

Grace Jones... Let me say it again... Grace Jones! The full live show touches down on August 9th.

The Chemical Brothers....back again after the success of last years sellout show August 16th

June 28th is pretty stacked with great stuff as we see Miss Kittin and The Hacker live for the first time in Ibiza, also making his Ibiza debut will be main man of the moment Marcel Dettmann coming to us from the infamous Bergain/Panorama Bar in Berlin. Miss Kittin will also play an extended DJ set on the August 23rd.

Genki Great Escape Brighton rundown in pictures

a little Genki rundown from the tour's kick off in brighton this weekend...

Tucker - total genius... never seen a person do so many things at once, or anything like it; he plays loads of instruments, licks a theramin, sets things alight, drops in 60s samples and does acrobatic shit too.

Riddim Saunter - their live show has crazy energy going down... the drummer is possibly mental - in a really amazing way... they played on the end of the pier and then got serious with the fairground rides.

80Kidz - their music is very hot right now. they look as good as they sound.

De De Mouse... woow, he's in a category all of his own. like a japanese Aphex Twin. Personally v shocked of what he is capable of (not easily shocked)

Riddim Saunter

The drummer live in action is one of the most genius things you will ever witness!

Steve Bug 'Collaboratory' - fourth artist album on Poker Flat

formats: CD & 2x12“ & digital
release date: 08.06.2009
Poker Flat Recordings

Steve Bug - the much loved DJ, Producer and underground dance music fi gurehead has built a career around a passion and a unique talent for electronic music. With over 15 years of tireless dedication to the scene under his belt, the Bug is proud to announce his fourth full length artist album, exclusive on Poker Flat Recordings, entitled 'Collaboratory'.

Based strongly on the ideas of collaboration, shared ideas, mutual respect for fellow artists and the strength of combining forces in the studio, Steve chose some very special producers and vocalists to work with on this exciting project.

From Berlin natives and well known high-climbers Cassy and Clé (of Märtini Brös), to one half of the Detroit Grand Pubahs aka Paris The Black Fu, ace producers and equally dextrous vocalists are assured. The Southern Hemisphere‘s hottest new export Simon Flower features with Bug on their new teasing cut 'Passing Clouds‘, while Minimise boss and techno legend Donnacha Costello also went head to head with the Poker Flat maestro in the studio. That's not to forget the stunning full-length vocals of Brazilian talent Virginia Nascimento on the slow-spun 'Trust In Me‘, and the classic Chi-Town cut ‚Like It Should Be‘, on which Helsinki‘s Gigi makes a magical rare appearance, sharing her inspiring and heart-felt message.

This engaging, accomplished and utterly satisfying album is the result of Steve‘s non-stop addiction with solid, essential tech-house grooves, mixed with classic, timeless song-like structures and catchy ear-worm melodies. Although the bulk of this addictive, instant classic consists of collaborative works, there‘s still a handful of fresh solo Bug treats in store...

Never ceasing to raise hands on the dancefloor, and indeed the hairs on the nape of every discerning clubber therein, Steve‘s unstoppable energy is represented in full here, from the techtonic 'I Swallowed Too Much Bass' featuring the twisted vocal talents of the Pubahs‘ Paris The Black Fu, or the equally disturbed 'Still Music' with fellow veteran tastemaker Donacha Costello, or the not-to-be-missed, joint cut with long-time confi dant Clé, in the shape of the pitching 'Month of Sip'.

The album is not merely a collection of club tracks however, as the whole work plays like a mature, well-rounded journey through various headspaces. Sure, some tracks will work the clubs, but others are equally suited to home listening, quiet time with friends at the dinner table or on the beach! Bug‘s love of the hypnotic depths of house are then pursued with spacey tech-soul cuts like 'Mr.Suitcase' (perhaps a calming ode to the amount of traveling his hectic DJ-schedule demands), or the
rousing tones of 'Like It Should Be' featuring Gigi‘s sultry, haunting vocals. Slower, more exploratory vibes are also on offer, like the acidic „Strong Moment“ featuring reduced house first lady and Panorama Resident Cassy, still maintaining the classic bug
trademarks, yet tripping things out for a more rewarding overall album experience.

The time and effort spent on this remarkable body of work is clear through the astounding quality, warmth and sheen of the recording. Steve Bug‘s productions never disappoint, yet with 'Collaboratory', his sound has been lifted to even greater heights, rejuvenating a ton of classic machines and analogue gear to enhance the production, giving every track a distinctive, lively and full aesthetic. Natural analogue harmonics and warm mid ranges colour the mix with a velvet hue, making this a long-player that’s a joy to re-live, time and again...

From the album‘s unmistakable and absolutely timeless synth structures in the opening track 'Trees Can‘t Dance', all the way through to the final melodious reprise of its conclusion 'Cherry Blossoms', 'Collaboratory' is a beautiful, refreshing and open-
minded reminder why talents like Steve Bug are hard to find...

Thanks to his wealth of talent and dedication to his art, he‘s ensured a whole new wave of fans, as he treads the bright, promising path of 2009 and beyond!

01. Trees Can‘t Dance
02. Swallowed Too Much Bass feat. Paris The Black Fu
03. Strong Moment feat. Cassy
04. You Never ...
05. Steve Bug & Clé: Month of Sip
06. Mr. Suitcase
07. Trust In Me feat. Virginia
08. Steve Bug & Simon Flower: Passing Clouds
09. Steve Bug & Donnacha Costello: Still Music
10. Like It Should Be feat. Gigi
11. Cherry Blossoms

Track By Track

01. Steve Bug: Trees Can’t Dance
Instant warm vibes, images of open-ended hedonistic beach parties or early morning sessions in the heady epicenter of Berlin‘s most loved clubs spring to mind. This modern classic provides the perfect opening tones for the album.

02. Steve Bug: Swallowed Too Much Bass Feat. Paris The Black Fu

Thickly textured beats meet strongly-spoken lyrics as Berlin beats join highly funked Detroit sentiments in this spooky and straight-to-the-fl oor workout. Paris The Black Fu‘s distinct vox work perfectly along side some classic Bug synth work leading
to restrained acid tinged madness!

03. Steve Bug: Strong Moment feat. Cassy
A slow-cooking jam that combines acidic house moments with deeply-rooted keys alongside Cassy‘s beautiful and distinctive dulcet tones. Blending classic house traditions and a totally contemporary production sheen, its as pleasing to the ears as it is the soul.

04. Steve Bug: You Never ...
An extra tweaked out tool included for good measure! Building the energy and tension as we approach the next movement of tracks....

05. Steve Bug & Clé: Month of Sip
Evolving, dark-house vibes a-plenty and pitching rave-signals add to the pressure as the two long time friends and deadly collaborators return to the studio once again. Expect nothing but pure quality, beats that cut through the mix like a finely sharp-
ened blade, and luxury synth work...

06. Steve Bug: Mr. Suitcase

Perhaps the soundtrack to Steve‘s many hours on the road, the
intriguingly titled ‚Mr. Suitcase‘ is full of slowly progressing melodic movements and timeless layered synth themes. A harmonious moment, marking the middle point of the album.

07. Steve Bug: Trust In Me feat. Virginia

‚Trust In Me‘ features the glistening vocal talents of Brazilian musician and DJ Virginia Nascimento, who currently resides in Berlin. This deep swung song is structured around a slow house vibe, but still works in a club environment with its hypnotic, ringing synth hooks and heavy bass elements.

08. Steve Bug & Simon Flower: Passing Clouds

Joining forces with New Zealand based artist Simon Flower, the pair whip up a tight minimal groover in true Poker Flat style. Wandering, blossoming synth lines work together to build up an organic, fresh and yet deliciously deep dancefloor adventure.
Softer, melodic elements draw attention to the finer ends of the production, whilst a solid and addictive rhythm section works the bottom end.

09. Steve Bug & Donnacha Costello: Still Music

An exciting collab between Steve and Ireland‘s Minimise Records boss Donnacha Costello, a producer well known for his own blistering analogue tinged works... Perhaps the most immediate dancefloor cut of the album, this tense, acid-line monster rises up from fi rm foundations, unearthing more and more surprising textural elements and effects along its journey sky-wards!

10 Steve Bug: Like It Should Be feat. Gigi
Another astounding vocal track, led by the rare and beautiful voice of Gigi, the Finnish co-partner of Samuli Kemmpi (hence their lovely deep house project Sam & Gigi). Its a stripped down Chicago-inspired cut that keeps the groove focused and re-
strained, allowing the wonderful, rousing vocals to really shine through.

11. Steve Bug: Cherry Blossoms

Drawing the album to a close with a freaky old-school tinged jam, 'Cherry Blossoms‘ draws on some of those classic electronica styles that have surely been absorbed into Steve‘s core over the years of finding, playing and producing new electronic music. Its
a fitting epilogue to a strikingly modern album that owes its musical strength to the roots of this scene, those early warehouse days... the wonderful moments of discovery and the treasured times shared amongst true friends....

Anthony Rother 'Hot Chocolate In The Milky Way' EP (Gigolo)

Anthony Rother
1. Hot Chocalate In The Milky Way
2. Green Star Drifts

Released: May 2009
Gigolo Recordings
Distributed by: NEWS

"The melting of electro with other genres is what makes the electronic scene and its music more interesting than ever before...

For over 17 years Anthony Rother has been working, playing, living and representing electro. With his club label Datapunk he has been transforming the aesthetics of Techno into today’s music with some extraordinary successful maxis. From his productions for Sven Väth’s Cocoon label to his critically acclaimed fifth studio album "Popkiller," which was voted by Raveline Magazine readers as Album of the Year!

So where is Anthony Rother in 2009? Well, we are proud to say that he is now frimly in the new Mega Chuch of Gigolo. Fresh from his much lauded co-productions on DJ Hells ubiquitiously receieved ‚Teufleswerk’ album our protaganists follows in the footsteps of Peter Kruder before him and delivers a stunning 12“ for Gigolo records.

Like its name sake sugests ‚Hot Chocalate’ in the Milky Way’ is a journey through a melodic sound scape of beats and open chords recalling the work of John Carpanter, the inspiration to Rothers formative work. On the flipside we find a more familiar Anthony Rother in the form of ‚Green Star Drifts’ a techno trck with more then a hint of Electro! In short Rothers latest release is like a Point A to Z on his impressive body of work and Gigolo is extremely happy to present this to the congregation!

Capitan Commodore 'Express' EP (Gigolo)

Capitan Commodore
1. Express
2. Don’t Stop
3. Cortical Systematics

Released: 18th April 2009
Gigolo Recordings
Distributed by: NEWS

'We are surrounded by thousands of sounds. All it takes is to order them electronically, give them rhythm and harmony, synchronize them, modulate them, etc.,' says Tytus de Zoo Book XVII (a fictional character from a Polish comic strip.)

Capitan Commodore aka Mariusz Socha joins the long and illustrious list of International Deejay Gigolos. His influences run through idols such as Herbie Hancock, Kraftwerk, Björk, Matmos, Mr. Oizo, Stanisław Lem, Philip K.Dick, and Timmbaland. Hailing from Lodz in Poland, you couldn't imagine a place further away from the environs that inspired Capitans Commodores idols. But when you listen to the music this tedious notion no longer matters, because like the work of our protagonists idols it is both Fun and Progressive.

All the tracks on this single are immediately modern, futuristic and forward thinking, a simply lethal cocktail of grind and drive: a deeply infectious groove combined with funky bass and distorted vocals. HELL can really pick a winner every time. It's as if he can smell the talent, and with HELL's esteemed seal of approval, CAPITAN COMMODORE is sure to go a long way.

Dave P and Adam Sparkles 'Delaze' EP (Satellite Of Love)

This duo look set for big things, especially with the support already behind them! Erol Alkan, Simian Mobile Disco, Riton and more all love them and so will you...

Dave P & Adam Sparkles
'Delaze' EP
Satellite Of Love Records
Released May

'The guy who keeps the East coast dance scene moving forward delivers a sublime dance floor cut. A record which will still sound cool in years to come.' Erol Alkan

'Delaze' is Dave P & Adam Sparkles' follow up single to last year's much-lauded 'Sunday Night In Glasgow.' The debut 12" which won critical acclaim including Record of the Month in Tsugi Magazine and Record of the Week in Manchester's legendary Music store Piccadilly Records. On their return we see our protagonists sticking to their trademark sound of Melodic Techno Madness but upping their game by delivering a record of distinct originality that is already burning the boxes of 2 Many DJs, Erol Alkan, Riton, Simian Mobile Disco, Boys Noize, Michael Mayer, Etienne De Crecy and Angel Molina .

Since the release of "Sunday Night...' Dave P & Adam Sparkles have been busy touring with Simian Mobile Disco and as part of the Radio Soulwax tour 'A Part of the Weekend Never Dies!' Their club nights in Philadelphia (Making Time) and New York (Fixed, Studio B) celebrated birthdays with Hercules and Love Affair and rocked the weekends of the last 6 months with intoxicating line-ups that include Playgroup, Michael Mayer, Ellen Alien and many more. Working alongside such celebrated artists has taught our protagonists that smashing a dance floor can be achieved with subtle detail and over long, carefully constructed, modulated arrangements. It is with this in mind that we turn attention to the title track 'Delaze;' 8 minutes of a delayed and warped melody, tucked away under heavy acid beats, gated feedback and phased cosmic strings. It is an intense 6-minutes before the track delivers its payload. The stark originality lends greatly to the tracks power, so much so that both 2 Many DJ's and Erol Alkan started playing the Demo months ago.

(Dave P)

Boysnoize Records wonder boy Strip Steve, a big supporter of 'Sunday Night...' relished the opportunity to remix 'Delaze' and turned in a Techno Acid track with matching originality. The aptly titled 'Strip Steve's 9 Minutes Journey To Salvation Mix' is simply that, 9 minutes of Throbbing Beats that delivers a twisted vocal crescendo that harks back to the days of Gospel House, but comes off more Richard James then Byron Stingley.

Finally we come to 'Tuesdays Gone' Dave P & Adam Sparkles ode to Eric Prydz, Deadmau5 and the Swedish Mafia. Like most of the new wave of DJ's and Producers Dave P & Adam Sparkles are not afraid to acknowledge the influence and inspiration that comes from this powerhouse of producers. 'Tuesdays Gone' in its simplistic form is a Techno track that makes up for its head pounding beats with a catchy melody repeated throughout!

Both Dave P & Adam Sparkles tracks have been co-mixed by Kelly Hibbert, one of the most talented up-and-coming Mastering engineers we know. With mixing credits that include recent releases from J Dilla and Guilty Simpson it is easy to see how such a big sound can come to such a small record label. But as we all know Love unites and Satellite of Love continues to transmit this message.

Louie Vega Vs DJ Pierre 'Da Jungle' (Afro Acid)

Louie Vega Vs DJ Pierre
‘Da Jungle’
Afro Acid
Released May

Vinyl version:
A1. DJ Pierre's Afro Acid Mix
A2. Gene Farris After Monday Mix
B1. Pierre Deutschmann Remix
B2. The Yes We Did Mix - The Klientele (AKA Angel Alanis & Lady Foursquare)

• Digital version track-list at bottom of press release.

Two legends of that thing we call House Music come together for the first time to create ‘Da Jungle’. Louie Vega and DJ Pierre – absolute forefathers of the scene - deliver ‘Da Jungle’, coming on DJ Pierre’s own Afro Acid imprint. With four versions available on the vinyl package and a massive nine on the digital, this is one release not to miss.

A hugely influential figure to DJ Pierre since the start (Louie Vega was the reason Pierre’s ‘Horn Song’ came about on Strictly Rhythm, after his strong support at the WMC), ‘Da Jungle’ was born via Pierre sending Louie ideas for a track. Together they worked and the end result pleased Vega so much, he put out a more soulful version on his own Vega imprint, entitled ‘Que Viva Chango’.

‘Da Jungle’ (DJ Pierre’s Afro Acid mix) is pure tribal confusion waiting for an explosion that inevitably comes, when the mid-way break hits… Gene Farris, gives up a jabbing west coast groove… The Pierre Deutschmann remix hits a harder, angular angle and where it’s supposed to... And The Klientele remix is designed for the big, big speakers.

Impossible to pigeonhole and irreplaceable to the scene which he has helped build over more than 20 years, Louie Vega is the quintessential music professional. He’s the ‘DJ’s DJ’ - the name constantly thanked on an artist’s album copy, the one who has influenced and defined countless other DJ-producers, from today’s brightest stars to those still beat-matching in their bedrooms. Whether it be under his own moniker or under his critically acclaimed Masters At Work moniker (alongside Kenny Dope Gonzalez) –working countless productions (‘work’ being only one and remixes, including remixes for the likes of Madonna, Donna Summer, Nina Simone, Janet Jackson, Jamiroquai, Earth Wind & Fire and many more.

Back in the day when acid was just a tab, DJ Pierre was holed up in his Chicago bedroom inventing a sound that would impact the music scene forever… In 1986, the infancy of ‘acid house’ was spawned when DJ Pierre picked up a Roland 303 and created ‘Acid Trax’, released on Trax Records under his Phuture moniker: Acid. He went on to record many of the early Acid House releases on Trax Records under the names Phuture, Phuture Pfantasy Club, Pierre's Pfantasy Club (with Felix Da Housecat) and Phortune, including the release ‘Your Only Friend’ - still a key player today. DJ Pierre has also released on labels including Strictly Rhythm (where he was also A&R for a time), Jive, Emotive, Nervous, Twisted, Ovum, King Street (including his debut mix CD ‘The Afro Acid Project’) his own Afro Acid Plastik imprint, and most recently on DJ Hell’s Gigolo imprint.

‘Da jungle’ is released on vinyl and digital in May 2009.

Digital only package:
1) DJ Pierre's Afro Acid Mix: By DJ Pierre
2) Pierre Deutschmann Remix: By Pierre Deutschmann
3) Gene Farris After monday Mix: By Gene Pharris
