best thing on christmas tv

one thing i do remember from being a chidlet was the totp christmas specials... they used to do the 70s then as was sooo long ago.. now they do the 80s, the decade of which i was born.. such amazing music came out then! i saw the 1985 christmas special over christmas (which ranked in my top five crimbo tvs - alongside grease 2, blood sport, the nutcracker and it's a wonderful life)... this song was on :)

Joe Strummer RIP

Today is eight years since the mighty man passed away... below are a couple reminders of the music he helped bring to the world.

Don't forget to check out what Strummerville (the charity set up in the year after his death by friends and family including Damien Hirst) is up to! www.strummerville.com

the clash is pretty fitting with today's current affairs!

Doisneau

I'm trying to remember where i found out info on Doisneau, and why I wanted to find out more, but I can't. I had a reminder in my emails about him, so here you go. He's a french dude and what i learnt is that he loved shooting real life, not posed images, and he hated how Paris lost its authenticity.. his most famous shot of the couple having a little kiss is in every french souvenir shop... au dessous est une sélection de mes images préférées de lui :)

The Welcome Committee

'The Welcome Committee' are a new 2 piece experimental/pop band from South London via Southend, made up of Joe Shergold (Vocals/Guitar/Synths) and Ken Canham (Drums/Sampler). They've managed to grab a lot of radio play with their last recordings (BBC Radio 1 - Steve Lamacq, XFM, BBC Radio 6, BBC Essex, Virgin Radio France) and have had some great press written about them (Dazed & Confused, RockSound). For the last year they've played all over the place building a strong fan base and playing some great shows with the likes of Baddies, Hoodlums, The Death Set, Magistrates, and loads more. Earlier this year they released their first EP 'this book belongs to lorri spice' and have just recorded a brand new song 'Hearts', more info coming soon!

Layo & Bushwacka! Endangered EP - released December on Plus 8

PLUS 8 RECORDS proudly presents

Layo & Bushwacka!
Endangered EP
PLUS8114 12”, WAV, MP3

2010 has seen Plus 8 celebrate its 20 year anniversary with releases coming from some of techno’s finest artists, including Paco Osuna, Marco Carola, Skoozbot, Mike Shannon, Danilo Vigorito, Datasoul and Uto Karem. Now London duo Layo & Bushwacka! join the family with the release of their debut for Richie Hawtin and John Aquaviva’s imprint, with the Endangered EP.

Layo & Bushwacka! are one of electronic music’s most esteemed duos. In just over a decade they have released three artist albums, three mix albums, formed their own label - Olmeto - and have held residencies at several internationally renowned clubs, including their monthly ‘All Night Long’ parties at The End in London, which Layo co-owned with Mr C. Since The End’s closure, Layo & Bushwacka! have been putting on bi-monthly ‘Shake it’ warehouse parties around London, inviting guests including Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, Magda and Laurent Garnier to play intimate sets that distinctly capture the raw energy of techno in its formative years.

“We both sat down at the early part of the year to talk about making music in 2010 and what we wanted to do - we felt that for four years we had just made music for Olmeto, and that maybe it was time to do something for another label to give us a different focus; a new litmus test. We then said on this basis, it has to be for Plus8/Minus. And several months later, here is our first EP for Plus 8: Endangered.

We called it the Endangered EP as we are against man's relentless pursuit of profit without conscience and its impact on the natural world. Each track represents an endangered animal and each animal represents the flavour of each track. The listening is up-to you.” Layo & Bushwacka!
