Vibe brothers in the studio, DJ booth and life, Apollonia have cultivated a creative synergy that sees them connect and work as one artist. Seamlessly weaving through house and techno, their sets are a hypnotic experience; three different minds, bodies and souls intuitively working together, focusing on their shared musical passion: grooves to make your body move.
“We don’t play like a usual back to back - where you can recognize who is playing what - we have a unity, much like that of a band… There is a point when we have played together after three or four hours and we no longer feel the time… it’s almost meditation.”
What they describe as a meeting of “black music and white soul” (inspired by the pioneering work of the trio’s hero, Prince), they have showcased their electric back2back2back sessions, where they play at least five hours or more, at Panorama Bar in Berlin, DC10 in Ibiza and of course, fabric in London.
Apollonia formed officially in 2012, although the trio have been friends and working together for more than a decade. Originally meeting at Ghenacia’s revered Parisian Sunday morning afterhours, ‘Kwality’, held on a boat in Paris, Dyed and Shonky released their first EPs on Ghenacia’s former imprint, Freak n’ Chic, a label which encouraged new talent to grow and reach from the echelons on France. After the label’s demise in 2011, the logical progression for the Parisians was to start a joint musical venture, and here Apollonia began - both the band aspect and as a record label, to release their own productions and those of carefully chosen contemporaries.
It’s an unmistakable energy Apollonia have brought to creating fabric 70, which was completed over an intense six-week lock down period in the trio’s Berlin studio earlier this year.
“The mix is a reflection about of our culture and how we play, and it's a really good mirror of who we are and what we do, mixing the old school stuff that fits in really well at the moment, with some brand new music.”
The mix includes fresh cuts from the likes of The Mole on his new Maybe Tomorrow imprint, Dyed Soundorom’s buzzing re-rub of Daze Maxim’s ‘Farbfilm’ (a recent addition to the Apollonia catalogue), two new Apollonia releases from the boys themselves, made especially for the mix – ‘Trinidad’ - smooth deep house that incorporates the male spoken word and ‘Visa Americain’, a swirling, trippy excursion packed full of multi-layered drums and fizzy sonic effects, both due out on Apollonia later this year.
Reaching back to the 1990s, the atmospheric pads of Nail’s ‘I’ve Been There’ is included from 1997, the uplifting summery grooves of Mood 2 Swing feat. John Ciafone ‘Ohh’ from 1996 and Callisto’s ‘Need Ur Love’ – a track close to the hearts of Dan, Dyed and Shonky - concludes the mix, standing as a solemn homage to the DJ/producer who sadly recently passed.
“Released in 1997, ‘Need Ur Love’ is a track Dan used to play a lot at the Kwality parties back when we all met. We almost forgot about it… but when we heard the sad news about Callisto we were reminded of it again – naturally we wanted to give a tribute.”
It proved a challenge to license, but they finally pulled it off, and what’s more hold plans to re-press it on the label later this year.
True to Apollonia form, fabric 70 is also a work with its share of twists and turns – the deftly talented trio knowing pleasure comes from contrasts and thus the energy levels are constantly manipulated up and down with masterful precision – the energy and intensity of their live performances injected into the mix. Always focused on the groove…

"In the near future I will ask my DJ colleagues which I will meet around the globe to sign the silver acid box. Once the surface is full I will put the machine on Ebay and the generated money will be paid as a bounty to a hospice for children.
The most of you are surely aware of what these houses do:
They are peaceful and calm places where children with deadly diseases like i.e. leukemia can spend their time in an environment with medical care, however without any stress and a good treatment. And on top also the parents and family members get a relieve there.
So far everybody has supported this little project with enthusiasm and I´m very happy that the feedback is such a positive one!
I will keep you all posted with the latest news and let us all cross fingers that the post on Ebay will generate a high amount of money (energy)!"

Where to start when trying to introduce Sister Bliss. A classically trained musician in a variety of disciplines from a musical background, she threw herself into the public consciousness back in 1995 when alongside Maxi Jazz she formed the now iconic electronic band Faithless who went on to become one of Britain’s proudest musical exports. With Faithless ‘retiring’ from a full tour schedule, becoming a mother to her young son Nate and with the launch of her own record label, Junkdog Records we caught up with Sister Bliss to talk about her career, her new single 'Aint There', the current electronic landscape, plans for the future and er, signing a fans ‘Bikini area’...

Sankeys Ibiza - dirtybird announce Thursday night weekly residency
Every Thursday 27th June – 12th September, 2013
Line-ups: Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Catz ‘n Dogz, Eats Everything. Guests include over 26 dirtybird artists from Breach to Bashmore to KiNK Live!
After eight years of one off sets on the White Isle, artist and label boss Claude VonStroke brings his dirtybird imprint to Sankeys Ibiza for a summer long residency. Kick starting on 27th June 2013, the dirtybird gang will descend upon the island every Thursday for twelve weeks, showcasing their unique brand of unpretentious, fun fuelled house and techno.
Although this series marks the first ever European dirtybird residency, the San Francisco based label are no amateurs when it comes to throwing unforgettable parties. Renowned for their eleven year old legacy of bass driven, funk infused and booty drenched BBQ parties at San Fran’s Golden Gate Park, the dirtybird crew are excited to bring their music focused, laidback family vibes to Sankeys’ basement.
The dirtybird roster is diverse and far-reaching by anyone’s standards, but each artist possesses that unique dirtybird spirit which is soon to become synonymous with the sounds of Thursday nights at Sankeys. While Claude VonStroke focuses on commanding the floor with his strain of tech-tinged, unadulterated bass walloping house, he’ll also welcome fellow label-mate, Justin Martin, whose heavy yet beautifully melodic work on the Ghettos & Gardens LP became one of the biggest releases on dirtybird to date. Rounding out the residencies are Dirtybird’s European representation with cross-genre explorer, Eats Everything, and Poland’s finest electronic exports, Catz ‘N Dogz. Up-and-coming label talents are also expected to make a series of appearances, not forgetting some special guests in the form of past, present or future dirtybird affiliates.
Dirtybird has always been about the music, and the no frills, Void soundsystem-fuelled Sankeys basement is the perfect home for the label’s first family outing on the White Isle.
“I've been playing Ibiza for 8 years from DC10 to We Love Space and I am really excited to break new ground and start our own dirtybird label night at Sankeys. We have always had a very tight knit family vibe at dirtybird and this summer will continue our ethos of fun and approachable artists who love their fans. All of our line-ups are booked with artists who have appeared on the label at some point. It’s a very international bunch and I think dirtybird will be a great addition to the amazing parties coming up this summer. I am also very proud to be the only American label with their own night this season and hope that we can add some much needed diversity to the landscape. As always, the dirtybird crew brings fun above all other elements.” – Claude VonStroke
“Dirtybird are ready to have big season at Sankeys Ibiza. We cannot wait to hear those bass heavy birdy beats in our beloved basement!” – David Vincent (Sankeys Ibiza)
