Beetroots
I am totally obsessed with them now. Saw them again at LED festival yesterday and their energy is just so raw and mental. They are proper rock n roll but for the rave. And the mask on stage thing...

Free Tiga remix of The XX
THE XX - SHELTER (TIGA REMIX)
In celebration of the Planet Turbo show at tomorrow's London's LED Festival, we are giving away an exclusive download of Tiga's Remix of "Shelter" by The XX.
The track is a dubby, Basic Channel-inspired reassembling of one of Tiga's favorite bands. Be warned that you'll have this song stuck in your head for weeks of wild afternoons.
"There's just something special about making out in London, your mouth bursting with toffee and emotion, that ugly ferris wheel thing looming in the distance...This remix is a love letter to British Romance, from the heart of a Canadian Revolutionary."

Obv feeling a bit techno
not had my techno head on for a while... must have been my techno o.d at the weekend (carl craig, mathew dear (he is far too fit to be a DJ), miss kittin, derrick may, then a cheeky bit of luciano, who was more house than techno but who cares)... just came across this... I was there the night laurent g got inspired to make this and I ended up promoting it also. ace techno. I fondly remember dancing in the same spot for eight hours at the panorama bar to larry g and his magical selection. Not done that in ages and to be fair probably won't do that for ages either.
Planet-E
Planet E is 20 years old next year (you'll be hearing a lot more soon...), which got me thinking, what is my fave Planet-E track? This biensur.
Azari & III 'Indigo' (Turbo)
Press Release
Azari & III ‘Indigo’
Turbo
Released: August 31st vinyl / September 14th Digital
Turbo Recordings is proud to present its latest signing, AZARI & III.
AZARI & III's first two singles were championed by an impressive cross-section of DJs and artists like Erol Alkan, Hercules & Love Affair, Michael Mayer and Friendly Fires. This broad-spectrum appeal led to Juno Plus featuring them on their "Ones to Watch in 2010" list, while "Hungry for the Power" ranked on Resident Advisor's "Top 50 Tracks of 2009" poll. They've been courted by Trax to become the flag-bearers of a late 80s Chicago revival, made arguably the best 90s dance pop hit of the 2000s with "Reckless (For Your Love)", attracted the attention of Pitchfork and the indie kids, and yet they've only released two EPs. What they've got in the pipeline is going to blow people away.
Their first outing on Turbo showcases a more stripped-down club sound, the pop vocals subdued to lush moans, the tones darker and deeper than what you've heard from them before, but every bit as catchy and effective on the dancefloor. The Dub is an extended version with 10% more funk, 5% more 'jack', and 1% more jazz (our imposed limit).
The B-side reveals a new dimension to AZARI & III; further proof that these guys aren't one-trick nu-jacks but seasoned afficionados who have been trawling Canadian record stores for the past two decades, refining an aesthetic that doesn't imitate but rather re-invents genres in their image. "The Worker" is a legit warehouse techno bomb, a bit too full-on for the album, but perfect for a limited edition indigo-colored vinyl release on a label known for "bangers."
AZARI & III's self-titled debut LP is slated for release on Turbo early 2011.

Retro/Grade announced as LIVE tour support for Groove Armada's upcoming Black Light album tour
Retro/Grade announced as the Tour support act for Groove Armada’s upcoming ‘Black light’ album tour.
Retro/Grade, the Modern Day Italo Disco duo (comprising of Serge Santiago and Tom Neville) have been announced as the Tour support for Groove Armada’s forthcoming ‘Black Light’ tour, starting Thursday 7th October at the O2 Academy in Leeds, going on to Glasgow, Manchester, Norwich, Bristol, Birmingham and finishing Saturday 16th October at the O2 Academy in Brixton.
Retro/Grade’s Live Show includes MODA, PULSAR, ZOID and new material not yet heard by the ears of man. The visuals are inspired graphics warped straight from a Commodore 64 or Atari 2600 (old school computer games), bringing retro to the now.
Retro/Grade gave an exclusive interview on Radio 1 to Andy & Jaymo, depping for Pete Tong’s Friday show, to announce the tour support. You can listen again here
And find full details of the tour here: www.myspace.com/retrogradeishere
Recently signed to Deconstruction, last week Retro/Grade finally gave their single MODA the proper release it deserves. A huge Modern-Italo-Disco track with guaranteed dancefloor effect, MODA was originally released last year on 500 one-sided vinyl copies and immediately supported by tastemakers Annie Mac, Erol Alkan, A-Trak, Brodinski, Simian Mobile Disco, Pete Tong and many more. Now, backed with the B-Side of Pulsar, it is released proper, ahead of the debut album MOTION coming next year.

“We have had the Retro/Grade protect inside us for ages now, its taken time to get it out and everything right, making it sound vintage but also timeless, fresh. We've taken influence from across everywhere - films, artists, games; anything with emotion. Using films like Bladerunner, Tron even Rocky to help guild us as writing music to scores is a great way get you mind focusing on different points of the music and how it should all work. Patrick Cowley, Gino Soccio, Goblin, Larry Laven etc, helps us keep the energy level up in what we write. Keeps it dance floor without conforming to today’s rules in how you 'should' produce, letting us be much looser with the notes that are being played.” – Retro/Grade

Rum Shebeen 'Tropical' / 'I'm An Old Punk'
Press Release
Rum Shebeen
‘Tropical’ / ‘I’m An Old Punk’ – Double A-Side
Label: GutRot
Released: September 13th
“We present a new offering to the party Gods in the shape of music. Already a trusted art form but in our hands music becomes more colourful and fun than anything else you've heard this year...” – Rum Shebeen
Rum Shebeen are the antidote to these times of glorifying everything wrong and proper. They’re here - in Shirts of Tropical splendor - for you to misunderstand…
The South London troubadours have until now been trawling the country in their ‘Big Green Rum Shebeen Machine’ tour bus, playing their own sold out tours and also hijacking other people’s good times (supporting The Lemonheads, Jamie T, Florence And The Machine). Now, finally, they’re releasing their first double A-side single: ‘Tropical’/’I’m an Old Punk’.
Acting like an instruction manual to the next generation in how to live your life, ‘I’m An Old Punk’ dishes out the ideals of ’77; keeping the dream that Johnny Rotten pissed all over alive. ‘Tropical’ is the antidote, conjuring up a Shangri-la hidden between the paving stones and gutters of a grimy city.
With a splash of soul and a rinse-out in rhythm and blues, these boys sound like the remix of your long-lost pirate-grandaddy’s record collection. You won’t make head of them, but you might be able to catch their tailcoats breezing in the wind.
Rum Shebeen: David Ashby (Vocals), Matt Allchin (Guitar), James
McCool (Keyboards), Bob Doyle (Bass Guitar) and Bobby Hewitt (Drums).
Rum Shebeen will be playing YoYo on September 9th at Nottinghill Arts Club from 8.30pm for a Strummerville special showcase.
The single launch will be a warehouse party turning into a rave, supported by friends of the band Turbogeist and Thrush Metal on September 11th.

Booka Shade 'Teenage Spaceman' (Coop / Get Physical)
Booka Shade
‘Teenage Spaceman’
1. Booka In Space Mix
2. Sei A Bass Remix
3. Sei A Synth Remix
4. Tim Deluxe Future Disco Remix
5. Radio Edit
Released August 30th / Out Now on Beatport
Coop / Get Physical Music
Booka Shade get cosmic with their new single - ‘Teenage Spaceman’ - taken from their fourth artist album ‘More!’.
Booka Shade’s own ‘Booka In Space’ mix is the main title track of the EP - emotive, contemporary, techno - the three words that sum it up to perfection. Described as a melancholy masterpiece of suggestion and atmosphere, building to that breathless, eyes-closed moment you can only ever experience on the darkness of the dancefloor…
Sei A, one of the UK's most promising techno talents brings his distinct rich textured sound of warm subtle melodies and moody atmospheric synths with two signature remixes. With productions already signed to Gigolo, Buzzin' Fly and Turbo, this young Glaswegain delivers a mature style of Deep, Tech House. Tim Deluxe again takes a detour from the style he’s known for (first Garage, then House, Techno and now Disco) and delivers an energetic Future Disco remix.
Four albums in and Booka Shade are forever pushing forwards. Over the past two years their Live show has seen them extensively tour the world, including Coachella USA, Sonar Spain, Red Rocks USA, Future Music Australia, Werchter Belgium and many more – taking Electronic Music Live to the masses like Brit and French counterparts Underworld, Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers.
VIDEO COMP... Booka Shade gave the opportunity to aspiring film directors to make the video to ‘Teenage Spaceman’. After many brilliant entries from around the world, the winner was picked on June 23rd. Matthew Harris, from New Zealand, won:
“There was the video from Matthew Harris, where a loner finds contact to the world again with a self made space suit. The narrative is held together with amazing special effects and a fantastic performance by Scott Orr. The video is freaky, funny, a little trashy (in a positive Dee Lite circa early 90s, way). We've never had a video with a sense of humour before and our initial reservations were slowly quashed as something kept making us return to watch it over and over.” (Booka Shade)
