My Name Is Tiga - on 6 Music

On Sunday 3rd April, revered electronic music veteran Tiga will be taking to the hallowed 6 Music decks, helming the 6 Mix with the aptly titled 'My Name is Tiga' show.

No stranger to radio, having hosted a show on CKUT in Montreal in the early 90?s and producing a series of podcasts in more recent years, the Montreal-based producer, DJ, label- head and tastemaker, will be delving deep into his superlative record collection for the 120-minute mix. A master class in synth-based sonic wizardry, he will play seminal releases from the likes of Aphex Twin and Cabaret Voltaire, alongside a choice selection of new cuts. The show will also exclusively premier new tracks from his ZZT project, plus a never-heard remix of one of his own tracks by Boys Noize.

An unparalleled resumé that includes two solo albums ('Sexor' and 'Ciao!'),numerous collaborative projects - including his work with Zombie Nation under the ZZT moniker - and remixes for the likes of LCD Soundsystem and Soulwax has ensured that he remains one of the most inexhaustibly creative and respected musicians in dance music.

The show will be aired at 8pm on Sunday 3rd April, with a repeat on Saturday 9th April at 10pm, and will be available for streaming on the 6 Music website for two weeks.

Mondkopf 'Day Of Anger' EP - Press Release

Mondkopf – ‘Day Of Anger’ EP
1. Day of anger
2. Eastern Revolt feat. Oomiaq
3. New-York
4. Euphoria
In Paradisum
Released 16 May 2011*
*CD ONLY with Limited Edition fanzine included / release date excludes France

A sonic journey to the beautiful darkside, Mondkopf’s ‘Day Of Anger’ EP merges futuristic electronica with classical elements to create a powerful, melodic and slightly gothic work of art.

Defying tradition, in 2009 Mondkopf imposed himself as a French electronic revelation with his debut album ‘Galaxy Of Nowhere’. Critical acclaim included a comparison to Brian Eno by Les Inrocks, as well as artistic parallels to Apparat, Modeselektor and Moderat. He remixed Caribou, The Teenagers, Black Devil Disco Club, Golden Filter, Johnny Cash and picked up the ears of DJs including Agoria, Busy P, Boys Noize and James Zabiela in the process… His ‘Galaxy of Nowhere’ Live show also began to tour… voted in the top five Live shows of 2010 by Tsugi Magazine in France.

In 2011, and at still only 24, Mondkopf’s second album ‘Rising Doom’ is ready. Inspired by post-punk, black metal, and with the music of Aphex Twin and Autechre always in his head, the album displays an energy du force like no other. Merging sound and vision, he has also collaborated with multimedia design agency, Trafik, to conceive a Live show experience for both the ears and eyes; black and white tension immerses, igniting the sensation of rave parties, exorcism and a mystical experience…

A preview show was held at La Gaite Lyrique in Paris in April - http://liveweb.arte.tv/fr/video/Mondkopf_a_la_Gaite_Lyrique/

Ahead of Mondkopf’s second album ‘Rising Doom’, the ‘Day Of Anger’ is a four track EP released on Limited Edition CD only. The CD includes a 16-page booklet of image and word inspirations for the making of ‘Rising Doom’.

Martin Buttrich ‘Full Clip’ - REMIXES (Planet-E)

Martin Buttrich ‘Full Clip’ - REMIXES
Kirk Degiorgio remix
Planet-E
Vinyl / Digital - released April 12

In 2011 Carl Craig’s Planet-E imprint turns 20. To celebrate, as well as a world-wide label tour starting in March 2011, Craig is releasing a retrospective Planet-E compilation - entitled ‘20 F@#&ING Years - We Ain't Dead Yet’ (released digitally February 22nd / vinyl in June), and releasing a monthly remix release from the Planet-E back catalogue, where friends of the label choose their favourite Planet-E release and add their take on it.

The second in the series - following from Luciano’s remix of Recloose’s ‘Can’t Take it’ - comes Kirk Degiorgio’s remix of Martin Buttrich’s ‘Full Clip’.

Original here:

"It was an honour to be involved in Planet E's 20th Anniversary remix project as it's always been one of my favourite labels, run of course by one of my very favourite friends! The very first Planet E release by 69 blew me away back in 91 - and it was a dream come true when Carl signed my Future/Past track for the labels second release a few months later.

There are many classic tracks on the label, but choosing to remix Full Clip was a no-brainer for me. It was a high-risk strategy as it's one of the labels anthems, well-known and loved by thousands worldwide. But I knew it has the building blocks and potential to go in other directions with my personal touch applied. It's both a classic and futuristic production - and I was very grateful to get the chance to remix it." - Kirk Degiorgio

Remixes from artists including Ricardo Villalobos, Dubfire, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Kyle Hall, Agoria, Mad Mike Banks, Dennis Ferrer and others will follow in 2011.

The May release will be” Next release in the remix series will be Tribe - ‘Where Am I ‘Remixes featuring Agoria and Kyle Hall.

One of the leading electronic music labels in the history of the genre, Planet-E, is taking a moment to celebrate and share a bit of its history, before getting back to the business of looking forward.

Catty Want a nanna

I got a new Tattoo

It's the lyrics from one of my favourite songs ever, this:

Laurie Anderson at the Barbican

I've had a little fascination going on with laurie anderson ever since discovering her O Superman song (via booka shade and MANDY taking it to the dancefloor a few years ago now)...

here's the original, amazing! released in 1981... avant garde...

when i lived in New Yoik they had an exhibition on at the MOMA about NYC music scene in the 70s and 80s (best time to be there)... Laurie featured in it quite a lot, so naturally my interest was piqued when i found out there was an exhibition on at the Barbican entitled: Pioneers of the Downtown Scene, New York 1970s'... featuring Laurie Anderson, Trisha Brown and Gordon Matta-Clark... I didn't really get Matt-Clark's work and found it a little boring. Trisha's was good but would have been more fun to take part (people walking across walls and on a big spider's web of clothes)...

laurie's however, I loved. she did an experiment to see if the place where she fell asleep effected her dreams... i'm obsessed with anything dream related so of course i love this idea. she slept on coney island, in a court room, in a waiting room and others, and then noted down her dreams..

she also had a talking pillow that you lay on and hear her voice and a violin.

and a table that plays music you can hear through your elbows.

and a chair and light music thing that i stared at for quite a while.

i really like people like her. would like to have a cup of tea with her and her husband lou reed :)

In Flagranti 'Worse For Wear' (Codek Records)

Press Release
In Flagranti ‘Worse For Wear’
Codek Records
Released 2nd May 2011

Predictably jacked to the brim full of their signature no-gristle, no-glory aesthetic, In Flagranti introduce their new album ‘Worse for Wear’.

Succeeding 2006’s ‘Wronger Than Anyone Else’ and 2009’s ‘Brash & Vulgar’, In Flagranti’s Sasa Crnobrnja and Alex Gloor have left behind their vintage porn-chic sensibilities and instead turn to yesterday’s trashed goods for inspiration.

“Flea markets and recycling parts of our production are really at the center of this album,” said the now London-based Crnobrnja. “I like things to be old and run-down,” added Alex Gloor, who still resides in Basel. “So I let myself be inspired by one of my favorite places to spend time: 1970s/80s New York City.”

Using experiences from Gloor’s past trips to the Forty Deuce, ‘Worse For Wear’ conjures up ghosts from the finest of adult playgrounds past. “Hallow Discourses” swaggers in on a gritty bassline, revealing excess in its degenerative electro finest, and “Prelude to Chaos” reminisces the days where the finest of 69-cent wines glistened in the gutters outside the arcade.

But standing at a right angle from In Flagranti’s better-known, dirty disco sound are tracks with a peculiar sense of calm. Tracks like “The End of the Road” and “On the Fringe” leave a bit of the sleaze at the massage parlor door, opening up a new chapter of sound for the band. More outer space dump diving than straight-up vulgar, Crnobrnja also added that the album “Works with old recordings that we have not used yet, such as vocals recorded years ago that I didn’t like at the time.” Bringing back the past has meant a softer edge for the duo, who still work from different countries. The only time they come together is for music.

Footnote:

Trash essentialists In Flagranti encapsulate all aspects of throw-away culture from the 70s, with both the music and visuals that made it a must. Both Sasa Crnobrnja and Alex Gloor are the nucleus of In Flagranti. Formed in 2002, they are never in the same room or the same location, but as long as there is a computer terminal near by, Gloor would send sample rips from records he found during shopping trips to New York which Crnobrnja would piece together into what could be best described as a sonic collage of twisted sounds from an era that no-one should ever forget, with a mild hint of disco and punk.

Today as it stands, their name is synonymous in the DJing circles with much of their music played out by the likes of Towa Tei, James Murphy, Erol Alkan and 2manyDJs, all the while maintaining a cult following and mystique. And yes they still live in different time zones with Alex still in Switzerland and Sasha having relocated to London.

It's the night before Good Friday, one of the best nights of the year to throw a party and when Strummerville will present the charity's crop of new talent, sharing a stage with Frank Turner, who will celebrate his 1000th ever live show.

Growing out of its West London base, the Strummerville Spring Sessions goes to East London to take-over Hearn Street's Carpark on Thursday April 21st (Easter Thursday) from 8pm until 6am.

Strummerville, The Joe Strummer New Music Foundation is a registered charity that gives support and hope to aspiring musicians and help to projects that help to change the world through music.

"These bi-annual showcases are always real highlights for us and it's exciting to present some of the broad spectrum of the talent we have been helping. Having Frank give us this support is really special for everyone involved, it's artists like Frank that make us all keep believing ..." - Strummerville

Turner performed a very magical, intimate campfire session at Glastonbury last summer; a much talked about Glastonbury legend.

Anyone who has ever been to a Strummerville campfire or previous Strummerville Sessions will know that at every Strummerville event, there is a special energy. Strummerville's attitude for events is great music mixed with great people - on stage and off - pure and simple.

"The 1000th show is going to be a big landmark, and to be honest I was at a loss as to how to mark it - but when my good friends at Strummerville got in touch, it made perfect sense - a massive party to mark the occasion and promote some great causes.
