Marc Romboy and Ken Ishii 'Taiyo' - coming February on Systematic
Marc Romboy & Ken Ishii - Taiyo
Systematic Recordings
Release date: 8 February, 2013
You
don't need to be in the same studio or club, or even the same continent
to experience a musical connection; regardless of distance, you
recognise the click instantaneously.
Some
7000 kilometres divide techno master craftsmen Marc Romboy and Ken
Ishii, but that didn't prevent them uniting to produce Taiyo (Japanese
for 'sun', the origin of everything), an album that is as much about the
duo's shared musical vision, as the inevitable flicker of creative
conflict that marks collaborations of this nature. Indeed, to Romboy and
Ishii, the challenge of balancing these subtle differences lies at the
core of album and where the most interesting and unexpected sonic ideas
are spawned.
Over
seven tracks the pair combines to craft an album of intricate
next-level techno, simultaneously creative in its sound design and with
enough drive to excite a dancefloor, proving distance is no barrier when
two such superbly talented musical alchemists undertake a
collaboration.
As
electronic music talent goes, both artists enjoy stunning pedigrees and
a sixth sense for production. Romboy has been active in the industry
for almost twenty years, as an acclaimed producer, DJ and label owner,
first heading up prolific underground imprint Le Petit Prince throughout
the '90s, before birthing Systematic Recordings, the label he owns and
A&Rs today. Internationally revered, Romboy issues releases from
lofty names such as Robert Babicz, Steve Lawler, Ripperton, Stephan
Bodzin and more on the label. Additionally, he's also released cuts on
Ovum, Tronic, Simple, Herzblut Recordings, among others
Ken
Ishii is inarguably one of Japan's most respected and innovative techno
artists, while being a producer whose influence and reach extends far
beyond the dancefloor. Such is his standing, that In 1998, he was chosen
to produce the official theme song for the Winter Olympics in Nagano,
while two years later in 2000, he was nominating for a Japanese Academy
Award for his work on the soundtrack of hit Japanese movie Whiteout.
Throughout
his career, the artist has created music for video games, designed an
exclusive 12.2 sound system that featured at the World Expo in Aichi,
Japan in 2005, all the while enjoying a career in dance music stretching
back 20 years to his seminal releases on R & S in the early 90s.
Together
the pair has created a work that represents the ying and yang of
techno; west meets east; atmosphere meets groove-ridden dancefloor
precision; contrasting, yet harmonious, and a pure trip for the mind and
eardrums.
Track by track breakdown of Taiyo by Ken Ishii
01. Gosa:
"This
is a Japanese word that means an error or an (acceptable) error range.
When two men collaborate on something there must be an error between
them to some extent, but this error makes what comes out of it
interesting and different. Our collaboration is all about
this. We combined the expected and the unexpected coming out of each of us and made a subtle balance in them. Then we got this album, which I can describe as a real and creative techno album."
02. Seiun:
this. We combined the expected and the unexpected coming out of each of us and made a subtle balance in them. Then we got this album, which I can describe as a real and creative techno album."
02. Seiun:
"This
is also a Japanese word, means a galaxy or a nebula. I was thinking
about UR's X-101 and 102 [Underground Resistance] when I was working the
parts and loops for this track. Time, space and techno."
03. Helium:
03. Helium:
"Probably the most atmospheric track on this album. We added some oriental touches to the atmosphere."
04. Dopplereffekt:
04. Dopplereffekt:
"Marc's arpeggios work nicely to give this track a driving feel!"
05. Suisei:
05. Suisei:
"This is another Japanese word which means a comet. Spacey and dramatic track that sounds like a comet coming and disappearing."
06. Taiyo:
06. Taiyo:
"This
means the sun in Japanese. It was actually the track Marc and I started
our collaboration off with. We instantly clicked with each other and
decided to do a whole album consequently. I love this track's contrast
between the beats and the pads, like yin and yang."
07. Der Strand:
07. Der Strand:
"This track and Helium are sister songs, a kind of reprise of Helium. The lovely beach ambience comes from Marc's good memory."

Carl Craig interview on Dubspot TV
Carl Craig talks about his early days as a producer and DJ; his approach to DJing and production and the influence of innovative pioneers like Derrick May; producing tracks using vintage equipment like the Prophet 600 synthesizer and a four-track recorder; and combining digital audio technology with hardware and analog equipment. He also discusses Apple's Logic Pro, using plug-ins to mimic hardware compressors, performing live under the alias 69 and revisiting his early classics. He leaves us with some invaluable advice for young up-and-coming artists: "always learn from the elders - doesn't matter what kind of music they do, they've been through it - but also watch the young guys."

LWE presents SIDEXSIDE Part 1 - Horse Meat Disco SXS Danny Krivit - Saturday 13 October
LWE presents SIDEXSIDE
Part 1 - Horse Meat Disco SXS Danny Krivit
Saturday 13 October
Factory 7, 13 Hearn St Shoreditch, EC2A 3LS
LWE presents SIDEXSIDE - a three part series of contemporary music events that create DJ partnerships that will excite, challenge and inspire
SIDEXSIDE is a celebration of DJs and the power of shared creativity that drives our scene forward. The concept is very simple: Two artists sharing an entire night of music, playing together; side by side. With an eight-hour night as their ‘blank canvas’, the DJs have time to push boundaries, to dig deeper into their record collections, pulling out classics, dancefloor destroyers, hidden treasures and even a few guilty pleasures along the way.
Now into their eighth year, Horse Meat Disco have continued to lead the way with packed residencies at HQ at The Eagle in London’s Vauxhall, Lux in Lisbon and with the Tape organisation in Berlin. Inspired by the music and inclusive ethos of New York’s club scene during the ’70s and ’80s, Horse Meat Disco have garnered a unique reputation for amazing parties and unmatchable sets, the quartet of DJs each mixing their own individual quality blend of disco juice with all manner of dancefloor fillers: be it punk funk, italo, house, electric bangers or plain old oddities!
HMD will perform alongside New York legend Danny Krivit, his list of residencies and associations demonstrates every ounce of his legendary status. Danny Krivit is the don behind the immensely popular 718 Sessions and one-third of the Body & Soul collective. He started DJing at age 14 and learned from all the greats, including James Brown, David Mancuso and Larry Levan and became famous for his funk, soul, and disco edits (under the Mr. K name). Expect Danny to dig through his enormous record collection to deliver an inspirational insight to one of house music’s living legends.
The collision and combination of Horse Meat Disco and Danny Krivit sharing an entire night of music is something that has certainly got us excited. Now where are my dancing shoes?

Sankeys Ibiza ‘24’ - Closing Parties - Part 1 & 2 - Tuesday October 9th & Wednesday October 10th
Press Release
Sankeys Ibiza ‘24’ - Closing Parties
Part 1 & 2 - Tuesday October 9th & Wednesday October 10th
Sankeys Ibiza ‘24’ - Closing Parties
Part 1 & 2 - Tuesday October 9th & Wednesday October 10th
“In
all the years I have promoted club nights, in all the clubs around the
world - Sankeys UK, Ministry of Sound, Pacha Ibiza and The Hacienda - I
have never ever promoted or been associated with a club event of this
magnitude. Sankeys 24 is the best line up I have put together in a
nightclub during my career. I think the line-ups speak for themselves
and we are so excited. As a pair the two parties have a real magical
feel to them and could be something people will talk about in years to
come. The special guests for the Tuesday we are holding back, but no one
is going to be disappointed... We want to keep some things under our
hats, so we will release names on Sunday 7th, Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th
via facebook.com/SankeysIbiza .
We are also going to reinvent every area of the club with subtle
touches to enhance the experience. This party is going to be designed to
blow everyone’s minds and finish the Ibiza season on a high. We will be
the 24-hour party people.” - David Vincent, Sankeys Ibiza
To
celebrate the success of the 2012 season, the massive Sankeys Ibiza 24
Closing Parties will be dropping on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th
October. In keeping with the club’s tradition of showcasing the finest
forward-thinking artists both established and emerging, while always
delivering world-class party vibes, Sankeys Ibiza 24 will see a ‘best
of’ selection of 24 DJs and live acts, so many of whom have contributed
to the club’s stunning sophomore year on the island, with a few new
faces included too, adding spice to the mix.
Part 1 (October 9th) -
sees the line-up on the darker, more tech-orientated tip, with
Tiefschwarz joining VIVa Warriors Darius Syrossian and Luis Groove
behind the decks, whilst Leftroom boss and Carnival regular, Matt
Tolfrey, steps up alongside Fuse head honcho Enzo Siragusa and Guti
(Live), amongst others. An additional three special guests will be
announced via facebook.com/SankeysIbiza on Sunday 7th, Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th October.
Part 2 (October 10th) - from the white-hot house styling’s of Diynamic pair Solomun and H.O.S.H, who will be playing back to back in the Sankeys basement alongside Jackathon’s Heidi and man-of-the-moment Miguel Campbell, to a classic set of acid house from the legendary Todd Terry, alongside Sankeys favourites Cajmere and DJ Sneak, not forgetting long-standing Sankeys Manchester resident Ellesse. Part 2 celebrates house music in all its variant forms. Revered label Wolf + Lamb host proceedings in Spektrum, offering a contrasting sonic vibe with Soulclap, Baby Prince of Wolf + Lamb and more.
--- Sankeys Ibiza 2012 round-up --
What
a year it’s been for Sankeys Ibiza. From new kid on the block to
arguably the most buzz-worthy partying locale on the island, the club
has enjoyed a truly stellar sophomore year on the White Isle.
Whether
it be Solomun’s Diynamic Neon Nights parties that according to
Essential Ibiza had the “best atmosphere that we’ve experienced in a
club so far this summer” and whose success was typified by Solomun
taking out the ‘Best Producer’ category at the 2012 DJ Awards in Ibiza
this year. Or the Steve Lawler-led VIVa Warriors resplendent in
headbands and war paint, who rapidly built up a cult-like following
similar to that of the famous 1979 Walter Hill film they took creative
inspiration from, leading Ibiza Spotlight to recently claim the parties
were “bigger, better and dirtier than before”.

Watch VIVa Warriors mid-season special HERE
Traditionally
the quietest period of the clubbing week on the island, Sankeys Ibiza
also added fire to Saturday nights with their flagship night, Carnival.
Every week resident Bones, plus regulars and special guests led by the
likes of Matt Tolfrey, Miguel Campbell, Heidi and DJ Sneak have
delivered the finest in future-facing house, techno and electronica,
ensuring the party is very much in session every Saturday.
Watch Carnival end-of-season special HERE
After
a round of successful guest spots at Sankeys Ibiza in 2011, Enzo
Siragusa also brought his ever-popular Fuse nights back to the club.
This time the London clubbing institution hosted throwdowns on both
Monday and Tuesdays throughout the season and built on a growing
following to consistently deliver outstanding parties. RA liked what
they saw and applauded the night for the “loyalty of its fans” and
“top-notch” music after attending a Fuse event last month.
