One of the most pivotal and influential figures in modern electronic music, Carl Craig celebrated his twentieth year during MUTEK’s tenth anniversary in 2009. The most recognizable member of what is commonly known as the second generation of Detroit techno producers, Craig began his career as a teenager apprenticing under techno pioneerDerrick May and quickly established himself as an in-demand producer under aliases such as Psyche, 69, andBFC, before moving on to progressive disco manifestations as Paperclip People and jazz-tinged house as Innerzone Orchestra.
The founder and owner of the highly regarded Planet E label, Craig was also one of the central figures behind the 2000 and 2001 Detroit Electronic Music Festival - legendary showcases that attracted a combined two million people in two years. In 2007, Craig was nominated for his first Grammy, for his remix of Junior Boys’ “Like a Child”. We are thrilled to present for the first time, his masterful set at our marquee all-night Saturday program at Métropolis, in 2009.
