Mobilee Back To Back Vol. 7 - presented by Rodriguez
Jr.
After his first album, "Bittersweet"
came out on mobilee in 2011, Rodriguez Jr. became the fastest growing name on
the imprint to boot. But the buck doesn't stop at one album, a few singles on
mobilee and several other releases on the likes of Mothership and Systematic.
When he's not cranking out solid live sets on the international club circuit,
blowing up rooftop parties or filling up festival stages, this ambitious French
producer commits to some serious time in the studio where he recently wrapped
up his latest compilation for the mobilee "back to back" series.
Inheriting the honours from last year's "back to
back" artist duo, Pan-Pot, Rodriguez Jr. knew the boys raised the bar high
this year. As always, CD1 unravels 11 tracks hand-selected by His Majesty
including recent hits such as "Good Times", "Black Mamba",
"White Fiction", "Scenario", "Something That's For
Life" and more. CD2 unmasks nine exclusive "back to back vol. 7"
tracks, produced in collaboration with Anja Schneider, Pan-Pot Tassilo, And.Id,
Sebo K, Ray Okpara and Safeword. The featured mobilee artists contributed by
throwing in a few loops, stirring in extra sounds and dropping a few beats as
Rodriguez Jr. polished them shiny. Volume 7 is the most colorful and eclectic
"back to back" yet.
Rodriguez Jr.
For a solid 10 hours a day, Mateu manifests Rodriguez
Jr. in his MLab Mk5 studio, which brims with vintage synthesizers, keyboards
and dusty analog gear. Acclaimed Rodriguez Jr. releases for imprints such as
Mothership, Boxer Records and Giant Wheels, prefaced the quirky melodies of his
bass-driven house hit Princess Guacamole for mobilee records, and the tropical
techno of Kids of Hula for it’s sister label Leena Music. Drawing both pleasure
and inspiration from live performance, Rodriguez Jr. relishes the opportunity
to realize his project on the stage, and has done extensively throughout Europe
and America during some of his most acclaimed shows at Tomorrowland in Belgium, ADE in Amsterdam,
Sonar Off in Barcelona, Showcase in Paris, Watergate in Berlin, Hardpop in
Juarez and Kristal in Bucharest. A heavy milestone was passed when his
first-ever solo album titled „Bittersweet“ was released on Mobilee Records in
2012.
Audio CD 1 & CD 2
Just when we thought the world was going to end as we
knew it in 2012, mobilee stayed afloat with some soild releases confirmed by Rodriguez
Jr. on CD 1. Ray Okpara left
some memorable impressions on his album, “Good Times”, Pan-Pot dropped a
double-headed bomb with “White Noise”, And.Id went bold with raw, unedited
studio recordings when he released his “Live Cuts” and Sebo K introduced a new
string of parties with “Scenario”.
CD 2 will blow you away with „Hartwood“,
Rodriguez Jr’s biggest hit to date. With a series of alternating and repetitive
keyboard strokes and soulful lyrics bouncing on a thick velvet cushion of rich
background base, this number is guaranteed to appeal to the industry’s most
respected players while the ironically titled, “Henry & Lars” takes form in
a very cuddly story that took place at BPM Festival in Mexico as Anja’s little
guy and a stuffed animal named “Lars” found love and friendship in a little girl
and her gay stuffed-animal she called “Henry”. And so the story went on…
To
add the necessary, finishing touches to “O Amor”, Rodriguez Jr. and Tassilo
pulled the office chair wheels from right under the their favorite booker,
clapped some headphones over the top of his head, propped him in front of a
recording mic and voilà!, mobilee has le nueva cantante de house music! It’s no
secret that the man behind the mobilee booking front had a soulful side to him
– it was just a matter of time before Diego was to reconnect to his Mexican
roots and sing about the odyssey of love.
Taking
the set to a deeper level, “Roads”, is a joint effort between Rodriguez Jr. and
a certain Greek Pharaoh whom you might recognize from his tender trumpet calls.
And.id is full heart out as the duo deliver a tragically upbeat number that
rounds off a sentimental theme.
The
track list goes on with a surprise collaboration from San Francisco buddy,
Safeword, plus a new interpretation of Sebo K’s classic hit „Rancho Relaxo“.
Short interview
What
most excites you about your work and the contribution you make in the music
industry?
I like being in my studio, experimenting new things or basically playing
the piano for hours while looking for the
perfect three notes. I wish I could bring electronic music to a wider audience
without dealing with commercial shit. I don't want to do music for specialists.
Regarding my work, I am also very excited about traveling – being on the road
is like a very addictive drug even though it’s sometimes a pain in the ass to
deal with delayed flights and jetlag.
Summarize the recording of back 2 back Vol. 7 in less
than 10 words. RJ: Some kind of huge jam
session!
What’s next for Rodriguez Jr.?
I am working on my new live set-up, with a lot of improvements. It will
be even more 'live', including more machines and keyboard. I think we still
have a lot of things to invent and develop about
performing dance music.

Sonny
Fodera
‘Moving
Forward’
Cajual
Released March
"This album has been about a year in the making. I met Cajmere in
2012 in Miami at the Traxsource party WMC. I recently did a remix for Cajual
Records for a Gene Farris, Russoul track called "Dance Warriors".
Cajmere told me he wanted to get me to do some more stuff for the label. Over
the last year we have become pretty close, working on a few tracks and after 2
EP's we both agreed it was time to do this album. Incorporating the talent at
Cajual/Chicago & my artist connections worldwide, "Moving
Forward" is the final product." – Sonny Fodera
Born and raised in Australia, but now based in Europe. Sonny
Fodera started producing music at a young age. He has established himself as
one of Australia’s premier deep house DJs and producers, artist/remixer. As a

Francesco Tristano Live at Fabric on 2nd March
Francesco Tristano returns to play Live at Fabric
on Friday 2nd March.
Info here:
-->
http://www.fabriclondon.com/club/listing/700
Luxembourg
born pianist and composer, Francesco Tristano, has created rising fascination
in recent years. From playing live (electronic show) in the world’s best
clubs to playing live in classical concert venues, Tristano’s wide repertoire
spans baroque, classical contemporary, and electronic music and reflects his
experience and playing ability. Purists of the classical and techno camps agree
that they don't know what to do with the young musician who refuses to stick to
the rules.
Everything
Tristano does is an expression of an open-minded attitude that refuses to
accept stylistic borders and constrictions. A way of thinking that attracted
Carl Craig to invite him to play live alongside himself and Moritz Von Oswald,
performing at prestigious venues like London’s Southbank Centre, Vienna Opera
House and Amsterdam’s ADE event. He is also part of Aufgang - They blend 2
grand pianos, live drums, and techno-inspired electronics into invigorating
displays of virtuosity, which evoke the Club and the Classical without really
belonging to either one, their second album ‘Istiklaliya’ is released on InFine
in April, check the opening track here: http://www.infine-music.com/news/286/aufgang-new-album. In
2012, Tristano was featured on Mirko Loko’s Visionquest release ‘Timeline’
(check here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkMtMZnRRSA) and
earlier this year released solo EP 'Ground Bass' on Deutsche Grammophon with
remixes by Brandt Brauer Frick and Kirk Degiorgio. http://www.deutschegrammophon.com/cat/single?sort=newest_rec&PRODUCT_NR=4810015&SearchString=tristano&UNBUYABLE=1&per_page=50&flow_per_page=50&presentation=flow
For
Tristano’s solo live show, which he has showcased in such venues as Space
Ibiza, Rex Paris, Moog Barcelona:
Watergate Berlin, Unit Tokyo, Trouw Amsterdam and Deep Space in New York,
Tristano will play Fabric Room 1 on March 2nd, bringing along a new live set up
including 4 analogue and digital synths, 32 channel sound card, live sound
processing, MIDI and audio sequencing. The show will be, as always with
Tristano, completely live and will include his track ‘The Melody’ and his
version of Derrick May’s ‘Strings Of Life’
Check www.francescotristano.com
for full Francesco Tristano history, discography and for news on upcoming
perforamnes including Amsterdam, Sonar Barcelona, Cocorico, duet performances
with Moritz Von Oswald (Basel, Berlin) and classical recitals.

Ibiza 3D - 2013 Opening Parties announcement
Opening Fiestas on May
23rd AND May 24th - guests including in alphabetical order:
Cajmere, Darius
Syrossian, David August, Finnebassen, H.O.S.H, Mosca, Nina Kraviz, Shadow
Child, Solomun, Steve Lawler, Waze & Odyssey + more.
“People ask what is
Sankeys 3D. Well it is our 3rd year and therefore we are into the 3rd dimension
of the club. Obviously we had an amazing season last year, so we need to come
out this summer all guns blazing. We are again making quite a few changes
around the club as we grow towards an organic development of the venue. We will
be totally transforming The Box as we put in a brand new sound system designed
by New York’s Anthem Productions set to blow your mind as we reconfigure the
room with a 3D element. The opening parties are just the beginning of it all,
but wait until you hear about the rest of the programme we have at Sankeys this
summer to be announced throughout February. I am so excited that I am about to
burst and want to tell you all now, but I can’t…” – David
Vincent
On the back of a stunning second season last
year that saw it become the go-to spot for cutting edge club sounds and raucous
party vibes thanks to residencies from Enzo Siragusa’s Fuse, Solomun’s Diynamic
Neon Nights, Steve Lawler’s VIVa Warriors and of course Carnival, Sankeys Ibiza
returns for 2013 ripe and ready to
deliver their finest summer of events to date.
Dishing up the finest shades of house, techno
and electronica, proceedings will be kicked off with a double dose of opening
parties in late May.
The new 2013 season of VIVa Warriors will see
multi-award winning Steve Lawler further emphasize his pivotal role on the
island of Ibiza over the last 15 years, where his bold musical dexterity and
underground attitude is now securely installed in the Sankeys Basement ready to
lead his suitably impressive array of Warriors talent.
He will be supported by Darius Syrossian who is
an essential addition to the line-up, while the on-point Nina Kraviz also
returns after a superb performance at last year’s closing
parties. Joining them will be Mosca, Shadow Child and Waze & Odyssey,
who’ll each bring their own take on house and electronica to the first opening
party.
In Spektrum Troupe Records will be hosting the
hotly-tipped Finnebassen who’ll be making his Sankeys Ibiza debut after being
the most requested artist in a Facebook poll asking fans who should play at the
opening parties. Indeed, the Norwegian’s form was too good to ignore thanks to
last year’s dancefloor bombs ‘If You Only Knew’ and ‘Touching Me’. Playing
alongside him is emerging DJ/producer Charlie Banks, whose pin-sharp EPs for
Hypercolour and Dirty Crew Recordings belie his 19 years of age.
Day two sees the hugely anticipated return of Diynamic
boss Solomun, inarguably one of the world’s hottest DJs and producers having
scooped a multitude of awards. The big man has a sixth sense for bringing the
party and will be getting the Sankeys basement jumping alongside fellow label
mates H.O.S.H and David August.
The legendary Cajmere will also be gracing the
disco with his presence, after king-hitting dancefloors during two superb
performances last year, during Radio 1’s Weekend in Ibiza recorded live at the
club, and part two of the classic closing party in October. Adding a more
percussive shade of house to the brew is Just Be (Bushwacka!) who delivers
every time he plays, while U Wanna Escape’s Luis Groove and Alex Picone join
the line-up alongside the highly touted Antonio Piacquadio, a regular at
Sankeys Manchester and soon to be resident of Sankeys NY, which is set to open
this summer.
With the club set to formally announce its
seven weekly residencies throughout February and plenty of surprises in store,
Sankey Ibiza 2013 is only just warming up for what’s destined to be its biggest
season to date.
Thursday 23 May - Opening Party 1: Steve Lawler, Nina Kraviz, Finnebassen, Mosca, Darius Syrossian,
Shadow Child, Waze & Odyssey, Charlie Banks, Jonathan Cowan.
Friday 24 May - Opening Party 2: Solomun, H.O.S.H., David August, Cajmere, Just Be (Bushwacka!), Alex
Picone, Bones, Antonio Piacquadio, Luis Groove.
