We’re excited to bring you the follow up to
Acumen’s recent EP on Leena Music, adding to the buzz of his track ‘Attitude’
recently appearing on Finnebassen’s Radio 1 Hot Mix for Pete Tong. This time,
the Frenchman is releasing on own Time Has Changed imprint. Whereas his
previous ‘Mash’ EP explored an array of different styles and timbres, this EP pulls
no punches and carries itself with a truly assured, hard-hitting swagger.
The title track is a big smoky slab of understated
dancefloor funk, consisting of an undulating sub-bass line, punctuated by whirring
synths and a deep, sultry male voice (that belongs to Acumen himself, no less).
Re.You’s more upbeat interpretation takes the vocal and kneads it out over an
assembly of rolling analogue chords and pads.
Sans Vague is a heads-down 5am tech-house
burner, with hypnotic melodies bubbling around a tectonic rolling bassline and
woozy spoken-word vocals which orbit throughout.
Rounding off the release is Perspectives, a
masterful lesson in synthesis craftsmanship, with a lead line which perpetually
swells and subsides to create a stirring soundscape to drive the EP home and
end on a pensive tone.
